Agreed. All propositions are created and supported by selfish interests and do nothing positive for the citizens or the state. I lost count of all the sneaky propositions that attempted to circumvent term limits or to rescind the "Three Strikes and You're Out" sentencing.
I generally assume that propositions are a mistake and that if a topic is worthy of contemplation, it is something the legislature will bring up. I guess the only ones that this does not apply to are those that are when the legislature screws something up and the proposition directly messes with them (i.e. term limits).
I generally assume that propositions are likely so corrupt and so unwise that even our California Loonieslature won't touch them. I am also frightened by what our populace will vote for if you put the words education, police, fire, or libraries somewhere in the title.
interesting that you seem to assume that Republicans are less criminal than Democrats... I find both to be about as equally repugnant. I do try to vote for those that at least lie to me in such a way as to make me think they share some commonality with my points of view... but I often find myself unable to vote for anyone. I do agree that propositions are generally a bad idea and almost always vote against them. (I think I voted for prop 13, but that was a long time ago)
Philosophically, I agree with you, Hal: I'm no fan of the entrenched Republican party. However, the California Democrats are openly hostile to my Rights and economic well-being. The Republicans -- less so. That is the difference in this Hobson's Choice. Although, often it's not a good predictor, take Schwarzenegger [spit].
Ultimately, the best vote is with your feet - as I'm doing.
would if I could... split that is! I do love California... specially the one of my youth, but this Kaliforniastan... not so much. But I will stand and fight for as long as I can, and quietly try and gently persuade those around me of how it can be made better and made whole again. I truly hope this is not a lost cause.

ReplyDeleteWhat state do you live in Brandon?
Northern California in the shadow of the Capitol, where nothing good is ever done.
